What is Selective Condensed? Clearing up the confusion

Many parents hear the word “condensed” and wonder whether it means a shorter, lighter, or less complete version of our regular Selective Exam Preparation program.

At The Swot Shop, that is not the case.

Our Selective Condensed program is designed for capable students who are joining later in the year and need an accelerated pathway into our full Selective preparation sequence.

The regular Selective stream begins in Term 2. Students who join from the beginning attend once per week and move through the program progressively across the year.

For students who start in Term 3, the Selective Condensed program allows them to catch up by attending twice per week for one term. This gives students the opportunity to cover the essential Term 2 and Term 3 content in a more intensive format.

Then, in Term 4 and Term 1 of Year 6, these students join our regular Selective continuers once per week.

This means that, rather than missing out on the full program, Condensed students are able to complete the complete Selective preparation pathway across three terms.

Why do we offer a Condensed program?

Each year, we hear from families who may not have realised how early Selective preparation begins, or whose child becomes ready for exam preparation later in the year.

The Condensed program gives suitable students a structured way to enter the program without simply being placed into an existing class midway through important content.

Because The Swot Shop programs are designed to build skills progressively, we do not treat late entry casually. Students need the right foundation before joining the continuing stream.

The Condensed program helps bridge that gap.

Is it the same content?

The Selective Condensed program covers the same key content and skills the Selective continuers learn in Terms 2 and 3.

It is more intensive because students attend two sessions per week during Term 3, rather than one. This allows them to make meaningful progress in a shorter period of time.

By Term 4, Condensed students are ready to join the continuing Selective stream with students who began earlier in the year.

Who is Selective Condensed for?

Selective Condensed is suited to bright, motivated students who are ready for a faster-paced program and can manage the commitment of attending twice per week during Term 3.

As with our other Selective preparation classes, entry testing is required. This ensures students are placed in an environment where they can keep up, contribute, and benefit from the level of challenge offered.

Please note that not all students are admitted. The Swot Shop only admits students with high potential to its classes. This allows us to create the kind of advanced learning environment high performers need to thrive.

The pathway at a glance

For families considering Selective preparation, now is the time to arrange entry testing for the Term 3 Selective Condensed program.
