These past school holidays, our chess masterclasses brought together bright young minds from Years 2–6. Over a few fun-filled days, students discovered new strategies, sharpened their critical thinking, and put their skills to the test.
Parents gave the program glowing reviews—rating it 4.5 out of 5 stars—while students raved about the thrilling knock-out competition on the final day. Two talented players emerged as our champions!

Lucas – Chess Champion – Advanced
How did you feel when you won the chess competition?
When I won the chess competition, I felt proud of myself and those I played with. I’d like to say, “nice job”.
How did you first get interested in playing chess?
I got interested after watching a chess game online about two championships which then pushed me into playing chess myself.
Why do you enjoy playing chess so much?
I enjoy playing chess because of its design and because it’s a friendly game between two people playing a board game.
What tricks and tips do you have for other aspiring chess champions?
Some tricks and tips for other chess champions is to get your pawns in a triangle as it makes good defence and it opens up your pieces, also making a quick castle.
Yaswint – Chess Champion – Intermediate
How did you feel when you won the chess competition?
I felt happy and proud of myself.
How did you first get interested in playing chess?
I don’t quite remember as that was more than a year ago. I started playing chess at my school and my dad encouraged me to practise daily.
Why do you enjoy playing chess so much?
It helps me with focus!
What tricks and tips do you have for other aspiring chess champions?
• Keep your head in the game
