The Swot Shop teaching team comprises qualified and highly experienced primary and high school teachers who share a passion for teaching and a dedication to student success. With a wealth of knowledge, our teachers are the heart of The Swot Shop, bringing our educational philosophy to life every day.
What has been your journey with The Swot Shop?
I was a student here over two decades ago. I had no idea I was going to become a teacher back then, but it made most sense for me to return to a place of learning and exploration that I adored so much as a child. I have been teaching here at The Swot Shop for almost a year now and I hope to continue here many more years into the future.
I teach and have taught a range of classes and levels at The Swot Shop including English Primary and Secondary, Maths Talent, Galileo’s Gang, OC and Selective Exam Preparation.
What is your educational and professional background?
I graduated from Sydney Girls High School in 2013 and hold teaching qualifications in both primary education specialising in STEM and secondary Mathematics education.
In 2017, I graduated from the University of Sydney with Honours First Class and was featured in the Sydney Morning Herald as one of the state’s first specialised STEM primary school teachers.
In 2018, I was selected by the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers to attend a visit to Singapore to see how the teaching of STEM is tackled over there. I attended teaching workshops, educational conferences and school visits where I studied Singaporean-style mathematical pedagogy.
In 2019, I was a recipient of an Early Career Teaching award granted by the Parramatta Principals Network to recognise my distinguished efforts in creating, designing and delivering exemplary lessons to my classes.
In 2021, I was a recipient of the Executive Dean’s Award from Charles Sturt University to recognise the high distinction grades I achieved in my Graduate Diploma of Mathematics.
I currently teach Mathematics at a selective high school where I am passionate about utilising technology to enhance learning in the classroom.
What do you enjoy most about your role with The Swot Shop?
At the Swot Shop, I thrive on creating classrooms that focus on high expectations and achievement, but also a place where students feel safe to investigate and explore new areas of learning and share this learning in a collaborative environment.
How would you characterise the students you teach at The Swot Shop?
The students at the Swot Shop come with an excitement about learning and love to gain knowledge and skills just for the fun of it. They dive into the lessons with curiosity and enthusiasm, not just for grades or rewards.
What makes Swot Shop students stand out?
I think what makes them stand out is that they are thoughtful and informed with a sophisticated understanding of world affairs. They create their own opinions, and they respect each other’s different viewpoints, which make them become more open-minded and accepting.
If you could explain to future students and teachers, why they should consider joining the Swot Shop what would you say?
Join us at the Swot Shop if you have a growth mindset and the courage to make mistakes and learn from them. Nobody gets it right at the beginning but there are amazing and supportive teachers and students here to help you with your lifelong journey of learning.
