Holiday Writing Program Success. More programs underway, let us know your ideas!
In the January holidays, over 130 Swot Shop students and new students joined our expert teaching team to take part in a writing course for students in years 3-4 and 5-6 respectively.
Throughout the four-day program, students became more familiar with using devices for writing, while significantly improving both their writing and typing skills.
After the program one student said that they felt so much better at typing their writing, while another said, “thank you, I just loved the holiday writing program”.
Our teachers noticed the difference in the students’ confidence as the week went by, and some excellent, often very entertaining work, was produced by the children. Have a read of some of the funny and brilliant pieces of work here.
In a feedback survey to parents after the program, over 80% of parents who responded reported being very satisfied or satisfied with the program and noted that their children were very happy or happy to participate. None were dissatisfied or unhappy with the program. Parents also expressed that they would like to see more of these programs and that they would be particularly keen to see Creative Writing and Persuasive Writing programs.
Writing is such an important, foundational skill for all students and especially important for those with high academic aspirations. Writing skills must be developed over time and practised in a targeted and meaningful way for outstanding results.
The Swot Shop will continue to run writing programs over the school holidays to make sure students have the opportunity to continue to develop their writing skills and new students can join in.
