Give your child the gift of storytelling – and stronger writing skills!

These October holidays, The Swot Shop invites budding young authors in Years 3-7 to join our Creative Writing Masterclass – a fun, inspiring, and results-focused program that blends creativity with real academic growth.

Over three afternoons – Wednesday to Friday, 8 – 10 October 2025, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm – students will be guided by a qualified and experienced teacher through the entire process of crafting their own illustrated book, from the first spark of an idea to the final copy they can proudly share.

Students will gain:

✓ Confidence in their own writing voice
✓ A clear process for structuring and tackling a creative writing task
✓ Advanced writing and editing skills – including working to time limits
✓ Strategies for developing characters, settings, and plots
✓ Experience in reviewing and refining their own work
✓ A tangible achievement – their very own book, displayed at The Swot Shop

Every child also enters their book into our Creative Writing Contest. Winners will be awarded a trophy and a Swot Shop ribbon to fuel their writing passion!

How it works

Day 1 – Planning characters, setting, plot & chapters using fun “think tank” techniques
Day 2 – Writing the first draft, adding illustrations, reviewing ideas
Day 3 – Editing for flow, grammar, punctuation, and presentation; printing the final book
