Spotlight on some of our amazing high achieving students earning prestigious selective high school places

For many Swot Shop students, the journey towards academic success starts early and culminates with an offer to their selective high school of choice or a private school scholarship. Building skills and realising academic potential takes time and nurturing. An early start and a stimulating learning environment that meets the needs of bright, motivated learners is key to success. The students featured below have reached their goals after many years of hard work at school and in the enrichment and extension programs offered by The Swot Shop.

Sydney

We are thrilled to spotlight Sydney this month. Sydney, a dedicated student at The Swot Shop, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing a place at the prestigious James Ruse Agricultural High School. His journey at The Swot Shop, filled with hard work and determination, showcases a young individual who is not only academically gifted but also deeply motivated by a desire to make a positive impact.

Dreams for the Future: “Becoming a surgeon greatly appeals to me. A nice, steady job with the knowledge I’m doing something helpful.”

Advice to Peers: “Just check. The test may be easy, but silly mistakes will drag you down. Take my word for it if you know me in real life.”

Favourite Memory: “Studying with high school students while still being a primary student. Successful high school students inspired me to study harder to obtain a selective high school offer. Meeting Henry, a James Ruse student, encouraged me to do my best. When he left Swot Shop as he was getting too old, I had to get into James Ruse to meet him again. And I will be meeting him soon!”

Varun

Since joining The Swot Shop in 2016 as a preschooler, Varun has thrived in an environment that fosters both academic excellence and personal growth. His journey through our programs has been marked by curiosity, determination, and a spirited engagement in every class. Varun’s commitment and hard work have culminated in a prestigious offer from Normanhurst Boys High School, one of the top selective schools in the region. As he prepares to take this next big step, Varun remains a shining example of what young minds can achieve with passion and perseverance.

Dreams for the Future: “My dream for the future is to become a doctor specialising in anaesthetics and working in the Intensive Care Unit. I also aspire to become good at my sport and achieve being well rounded and kind and caring to others.”

Favourite Memory: “Although there were many good moments at The Swot Shop, competition day for me was always the best. The games were great, we could choose who we wanted to go with, and the atmosphere was also electrifying. Because we would usually get prizes, everyone, including me would be working hard and that made it really competitive. Of course, there were other honourable mentions such as talking and working together on questions and participating in class discussions, which were interesting, especially when it was debating on an answer.”

Advice to Peers: “My advice to my peers would be to have fun and to make lots of friends. Sometimes when learning can be boring, try to spark a conversation on a topic to keep the lesson going. Also, the classmates you have will usually be in your class more than once, so when you have friends, it will correlate to having more fun and make learning more efficient, and be motivation to not sleep!”

Thank you to Sydney and Varun for sharing their journeys with us. We wish them all the best for the exciting time ahead.
